The demand for a University of Georgia education has never been higher. Applications for admission rose by more than 100% over the past decade, and those who were admitted in 2022 averaged a GPA of 4.26, an SAT score of 1435, and an ACT score of 32.
UGA continues to make significant investments in upgrading our learning environment to strengthen our academic profile. For example, some of our recent hiring initiatives focused on recruiting faculty in high-demand disciplines in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the Terry College of Business, and the School of Public and International Affairs. In addition, we have continued to transform our classrooms into active learning spaces that improve student outcomes.
Preparing our students for a successful future continues to be the University’s top priority. By earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree within five years, students who participate in the Double Dawgs program can fast-track their professional development and minimize their costs.
UGA’s Double Dawgs program offers a wide breadth of accelerated master’s degree opportunities — such as the recently added biological engineering bachelor’s degree with a Master of Science in Pharmacy degree—that set our graduates apart from their competition. With more than 290 programs to choose from across different departments, disciplines, schools, and colleges, students save time and money while gaining a competitive edge in today’s economy.
UGA’s five-year, $6 million Active Learning Initiative is part of our 2022 Quality Enhancement Plan. We have moved beyond traditional learning to better motivate our students with an education that engages them. Our active learning classrooms and curriculum build on our students’ curiosity and initiative, helping them put what they learn into practice. We are fostering a University-wide culture of active learning by enhancing our classrooms and providing resources for instructor development.
The Active Learning Summer Institute helps UGA instructors redesign their courses to create higher impact learning experiences. So far, 107 instructors have completed the summer institute, and over 78,000 UGA students have taken courses redesigned through the program.
Mark Huber believes students learn best when they’re having fun. In his instruction, he focuses on covering the necessary materials, while intentionally engaging his students with projects outside the classroom and lessons about working in the real world. It’s a strategy that has yielded success for Dr. Huber’s students and has earned him accolades for teaching.
Dr. Huber received the inaugural University of Georgia Award for Excellence in Teaching, and he is a two-time recipient of the Lee Anne Seawell Faculty Recognition Award. He is also a co-founder of the Teaching Academy Fellows Program, a mentoring program that helps early-career faculty improve their instruction and networking skills.
I believe in teaching to a student's future. I want them to come away with the knowledge and skills to equip them for their careers.
