BFA '22, Art
After six years of active duty in the U.S. Army, including a stint as a mortarman in Iraq, Eric Martin found therapy through art. When he enrolled at UGA in 2019, the student veteran threw himself into his studies, particularly painting and drawing. With support from UGA’s Student Veterans Resource Center and his family, Eric is turning his dreams into reality and channeling his experiences into works like “We Came by Land, Sea, Air and Space,” which currently hangs in the Tate Student Center.
My first drawing class fulfilled an iconic, fundamental experience for me as an artist. With financial assistance provided through the Student Veterans Resource Center, I am able to purchase expensive supplies, such as oil paints and canvases, that would be otherwise strenuous for me to procure as a disabled combat veteran on a fixed income.
