Larry and Brenda Thompson became transformative supporters of UGA’s Georgia Museum of Art when the couple donated 100 works of art by African American artists in 2012. The Thompsons, both UGA Foundation emeritus trustees, also endowed the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Curator of African American and African Diasporic Art, held by Shawnya Harris.
Since then, the museum has continued to recognize the Thompsons’ impact through the annual presentation of the Thompson Award to a significant yet underrecognized African American artist.
“We are proud to support the Georgia Museum of Art as we have. They have been wonderful stewards of our collection, and they have made tremendous strides in making space for African American artists and promoting the contributions they’ve made to the visual arts.”
