After Alpha Kappa Alpha alumna Natalie Lewis (ABJ ’91) heard the personal story of a student in need, she convinced Eta Xi chapter alumnae to establish a need-based scholarship as their next service project. Within a year, the group raised $50,000 to create a Georgia Commitment Scholarship to provide need-based aid to UGA students in perpetuity. That effort spurred the group to begin fundraising for a second merit-based scholarship they hope to have established by 2023, the chapter’s 50th anniversary.
We have a lot of UGA pride, a lot of AKA pride, and a lot of willingness to help. That’s our motto: Service to all mankind. It’s important to our alumnae organization to establish a legacy that will be there in perpetuity to help students.
