Harold D. Melton, a 1991 graduate of the School of Law, was appointed to the Georgia Supreme Court in 2005 and served as chief justice from 2018 to 2021 before entering private practice at Troutman Pepper.
He returned to the School of Law as the Carl E. Sanders Scholar in Political Leadership, named for Georgia’s 74th governor and a 1948 School of Law alumnus. In this role, the former chief justice encourages future leaders to look beyond the surface when finding opportunities.
