Anumantha Kanthasamy joined UGA in 2021 as the inaugural John H. “Johnny” Isakson Chair for Parkinson’s Research and is the director of the Johnny Isakson Center for Brain Science and Neurodegenerative Disorders. With UGA heavily investing in brain sciences, Dr. Kanthasamy is leading a faculty hiring initiative to recruit neuroscience, epigenetics, pharmacology, neurotoxicology, and bioinformatics researchers.
By building the team and infrastructure at UGA, Dr. Kanthasamy is determined to better understand brain function and find cures for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
Senator Isakson created a huge impact in biomedical science research. It’s an honor to carry on his legacy with the Isakson Chair. Now, we are building on our strengths to work on the problem of neurodegenerative diseases that affect thousands of families.
